Black eyed pea hummus

Enjoyable quick dip for parties. You will need a food processor for this dip. Great way to enjoy a healthy recipe. Substitute the chips for veggie sticks, pita chips or corn chips. Also great recipe for vegans or vegetarian friends. Super rich in proteins too. Hint- Enjoy this on New Years Day great way to add a twist to traditions. In the Southern United States, eating black-eyed peas or Hoppin' John (a traditional soul food) on New Year's Day is thought to bring prosperity in the new year.


2 garlic cloves minced

2 16oz cans drained and rinsed

1/4 cup of olive oil (grape-seed oil is okay)

1 tsp of sesame seed oil ( this gives it a little nutty flavor but can be omitted)

2 Tbsp Fresh lemon juice

1/2 tsp paprika (can also use smoked paprika for a smokey flavor)

1/2 tsp cumin

3/4 tsp kosher salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

Cayenne Pepper if you like a little spice😊


You will need a food processor for this dip and a few friends to enjoy!

Process 2 garlic cloves, black eyed peas rinsed and drained, olive oil, lemon juice, smoked paprika, salt and pepper. Process until smooth. Spoon into a bowl and drizzle with a little olive oil and smoked paprika. You can also top with a little lemon zest or salsa. Make this dip ahead of serving for the best flavor.
